When:
Saturday, January 18, 2024 8 AM - 11:45 AM
Where:
Blackhawk Christian Intermediate Chapel & Art Room. Students and parents will enter through Door #1 on the north campus.
Format:
Single Elimination Tournament. Every student will be guaranteed at least two games. Games will last 30 minutes. If a player is clearly ahead by piece count, a winner will be declared. If the game is tied by piece count, players will continue to play until a player achieves an advantage.
Who:
Only students at Blackhawk Christian School Grades 3-12 are eligible to participate in the tournament. The tournament is only for students who know the rules of Chess and want a competitive experience.
Judges:
Kevin Newbry and Doug Pickett will serve as monitors and judges.
Additional Details:
- Unlike Chess Club where students are able to talk during play, students are expected NOT to engage in conversation during games so as not to distract their opponent or disrupt other tournament games. The tournament room environment will resemble an environment found in Chess tournaments around the country.
- Students who are finished with their round need to exit the Chapel. Students can converse and eat snacks in the Art Room.
- Parents should accompany students in grades six and below.
- Seating for parents and loved ones will exist in the Chapel, but you will not be seated “close” to the board.
- There will be bananas, water, and muffins available in the Art Room
- Rounds will begin every 45 minutes (8:30 AM, 9:05 AM, 9:40 AM, 10:15 AM, 10:50 AM-if additional round is necessary)
- A medallion will be awarded to the champion and ribbons will be awarded to second through fourth place finishers. The losers of the semifinal round will play a contest to determine third place.
- Doors will open at 8:00 AM. Play will begin promptly at 8:30 AM
